Vainglory Replay Guide

The replay feature allows you to rewatch a match you just played with a free camera and slow-motion capabilities. The replay button is located on the end-game scoreboard. This feature was introduced in November 2016 with the 1.24 patch.

While you can record replay footage, the process can be slow, and the resulting video file may be large. A more efficient method is to save the replay file itself, which is typically only a few megabytes and contains all the gameplay data. Replays allow you to view the game from the perspective of any player in a match.

How to Save a Replay

We will use vaingloryreplay, a Windows software developed by PopcornOne, to save replays. The software includes README files that explain its usage, including how to save, watch, and even stream a game from the replay feature as you play.

The following sections will guide you through the steps to save a replay on Android and PC. These instructions were sourced from Everlasting Night. Replay files typically have names that resemble this format:

dddbf79c-0f0b-11e6-940f-06c5ee41a4a5-41c6404f-bb7e-40c0-b790-f9cb6048f14d.15.vgr

Android

  1. Start and complete a match.
  2. From the match result screen, open your file manager app and navigate to /Android/data/com.superevilmegacorp.game/cache.
    • Note: If you are using Android 11, you may need to connect your device to your PC to access this folder, as apps are restricted from showing content in the /Android/data directory.
  3. Copy the replay files from the cache folder to a different location.
    • Note: Files in the cache folder will be deleted once you play another match or exit the replay feature.

Windows (PC)

  1. Start and complete a match.
  2. From the match result screen, open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp.
    • Note: AppData is a hidden folder. Enable hidden items in the “View” menu if you cannot find it.
  3. Copy the replay files with names ending in .vgr to a different location.
    • Note: Files in AppData will be deleted once you play another match or exit the replay feature.

How to Share a Replay

Simply package the replay files into a .zip or .7z archive and send it to anyone you wish. We encourage sharing them in the Gallery channel on our Discord. Remember to include a screenshot of your match results showing the builds to provide context.

How to Watch a Replay

Windows (PC)

Steps 1 to 5 are for initial setup only and need to be performed once.

  1. Download and extract vaingloryreplay.
  2. Move the vaingloryreplay folder to a location of your choice and remember its path.
  3. Open the Windows Start Menu and search for “environment variables.”
  4. Open the first result and go to the “Advanced” tab. Click “Environment Variables…” at the bottom.
  5. In “System Variables,” locate the “Path” variable. Click “New” and enter the location of your vaingloryreplay folder.
    • Example: If vaingloryreplay is in your Downloads folder, you would enter C:\Users\<username>\Downloads\vaingloryreplay.
  6. Navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp and create a new folder named vainglory-replays. Place the replay files of the match you wish to watch inside this folder.
  7. Open Vainglory and start a practice match. Surrender immediately and remain on the match result screen.
  8. Open Command Prompt. Type the following and press Enter:
cd C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp && vgrplay
  1. Wait for a few seconds, then click the replay button in Vainglory. You will now see the match you intended to replay.
